Easy SEO Tips

For a SEO panel that I attended, I was asked to give a top 10 list of things to think about when doing search engine optimization. These are my top 10 Easy SEO Tips to get your website ranking.

Now lets get on to the easy SEO tips. In a relatively particular order, here is my top 10 SEO tips.

1. SEO Topic Outline

It is important to outline potential keywords before you really dive in. I recommend that you list your top products or services, and then sub-categories of each. These will be your first topics. Think of this as your SEO outline that you will build from later.

2. Keyword Research and Selection

Once you have your topics, it’s time to see what keyword phrases people are actually search for that are related to those SEO topics. An easy way to do that is by using the Google Keyword Tool that is offered for Free by Google.

Using the Google Keyword Tool is an easy way to get a general idea of search volume, as well get additional search terms related to your topic. Visit the Adwords Keyword Tool External and input one of your potential keyword phrases.

3. Title

This is really two SEO tips in one. You have a Title tag in your header, which displays the page name in the top of your browser and also is the title when search engines return your website as a result.

Secondly you have the title of your content. For example, our title is ’10 easy SEO tips’. You really want to put emphasis on this and it is recommended that you wrap the title in a H1 HTML tag.

4. Description Meta

meta name=”description” content=”You have about 150 characters to use here, be sure to include your keyword phrase”

The description is where you can specify what you want the search engines to display when returning your page in the search results. They only show around 150 characters, though you can include more than that.

Google makes any words in the description that match the users search term bold. Including your keyword phrase in the description can help your result stand out from the others.

5. Keywords

meta name=”keywords” content=”my keyword phrase”

Think of keyword meta as your direct line to the search engines. Note that this information is never shown to users searching for your keyword, it is only for the search engines to use.

We recommend adding your keywords and some variations of it into this section.

6. Using Images For SEO

Adding images gives you a few more chances to fit your keyword phrase into your page., like using the HTML ‘alt’ tag(eg. alt=”keyword phrase”)

7. Keyword Rich URL

By including your keyword phrase in your pages URL, you can increase your relevancy for that keyword. Search engines like to see the keywords in the domain name, or farther down in the URL.

Instead of

http://mydomain.com/?pageid=123

Use

http://mydomain.com/keyword-phrase

8. Use Twitter To Get Indexed Immediately

When your page is live on the internet, a good way to get indexed quickly is by posting a link to that page on Twitter. You’re follower count does not matter, Google is watching.

If you do have many followers, and they retweet your link, that will give you more backlinks to your site and help out your chances of ranking highly.

9. Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking not only adds links back to your sites, it also puts your content in front of other people who could potentially link back to your site.

Bookmark pages on social sites like del.icio.us, digg.com, stumbleupon.com

10. Get Backlinks

For the last easy SEO tip, Get Backlinks. There are many ways that you can do this easy without anyone else help. Here are some easy tips.

Create a video on your topic, upload it to Youtube, and link back to your page in the description.

You can also include the video in your post making it more compelling for your visitors. (For example see our artile on Basic On Page SEO)

Create an account on a free blog site such as Tumblr and link back to your page.
